Need to fill some time? I am here to help!

Some day during the week, you will start feeling stressed. How 'bout giving the kids some printable worksheets to buy you sometime to finish that "TO-DO" list that has been hovering over you?? Sounds perfect! All you do is print off the worksheet, you don't have to do anything, and you can get other important things checked off your list :)

Hope this helps someone!

Happy Monday

Monday has always been  the worse whether you were in school or now the teacher. Here is some inpirational quotes I found that hopefully brings a Happy Monday to you!! :)

"Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help them become what they are capable of becoming." -- Goethe

"Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement, nothing can be done without hope and confidence." -- Helen Keller

"Once children learn how to learn, nothing is going to narrow their mind. The essence of teaching is to make learning contagious, to have one idea spark another." -- Marva Collins

"Ideal teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross, then having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create bridges of their own." -- Nikos Kazantzakis

"Learning is finding out what we already know. Doing is demonstrating that you know it. Teaching is reminding others that they know just as well as you. You are all learners, doers, and teachers." -- Richard Bach

Hope the yellow brightens your day as well

Suggestions: Have your kids make their own cards to put on the candy canes. To parents/guardians, grandparents, someone in the school, siblings, a friend, etc. whoever they want!

Turkey Word Work

As Thanksgiving is coming up, how are you ever going to incorporate Thanksgiving AND learning. Simple. Here is a fun, crafty project to do with your kids, here's the best part - they will learn too!
This project incoropates short vowel learning, however you can change it based on you lesson for the time. Make it your own!

Each students will recieve a turkey, and assign the turkey with different word families. Ex. -ap, -og, -ake, -at, -all, -en - The links also already has the words on them. Then give them six feathers. They can cut, color, and glue their feathers on, color the turkey however they seem fit.
Links to the Turkey and Feathers
When I use this in my classroom, I will assign kids into groups, so they can get help from students, but also teach the other kids about their word family. Each kid must think of six words in respect to their family. If they need help, make sure they know they can ask their group.

At the end, gather the kids into their group, and have the kids go around and teach their peers about their words and other ideas maybe the group has.

Any other questions, just leave a comment :)

Rudolph the Reindeer Candy Bar

Hey everyone! I am Ahnalise Bruns and I am on my way to become an Elementary Teacher. Teaching is about life-long learning, and children need to remember certain things all their life. This starts in elementary, because that is when kids learn the best and most. Correct?? What better way to do that than to make it fun?! My role as a teacher is to inspire my students, and my goal then is to be positive and to make ends meet for each students. Meaning - I will develop lessons to suit my class type, have individual help when needed, incoporate smiles in all that we do, and to be there for my students. Also, I know that not all my students will be my favorite and I will not be their favorite teacher! I want to make a positive lasting impression, and they taking knowing they had a great, positives learning environment.
I plan on using crafts in the classroom to help children express their artistic side, let loose, but also use them for learning activites. I want kids to really remember lessons, and I feel that having an activity, or an item of rememberance, is the best way to accomplish that. I hope to inspire other teachers, who maybe are not as crafty, to help them with activities and suggestions I can provide them with. Were all in this together!

This blog is a craft for the teacher to do outside of school, or on their own time, for gifts to the kids.
Here is a cute way to give your students a little Holiday treat before they leave. If you are crafty like me, this website will give you plenty of ideas, however if you think "No way. I can't do that!", I have a step by step on how to make Reindeer Wrappers. Start saving toilet paper rolls now, if you have a big class, you will need plenty!I do not have step by step pictures however, because I have not made them for my class, but this is my plan! Let me know how this goes for everyone that tries, even if your tweeked it a bit! As always, Have Fun! :)

Items Needed:
Toilet paper Rolls
Dark Brown Construction Paper
Light Brown Construction Paper
Red Construction Paper
White Construction Paper
Black Construction Paper
Tape or glue (which ever preferred)
Brown Pipe Cleaners
Candy Bars (test the size with your toilet paper rolls)

Instructions:
Step 1: Measure, cut, and attach brown construction paper to a toilet paper roll. You are going to want to skwish or fold  (tape would be easiest here)
Step 2: Now is the cutting part, which might take up the most time. I know this might be inconvienient, but look at the picture if you need help.
  • Light Brown - You'll need to cut a big circle for the nose and hair (the half cloud shaped thing)
  • Dark Brown - Cut half circles for the eyelid
  • White - Cut full circles for the eye
  • Black - Cut littler circles for the pupil *make sure you measure this with the eyelid and center of the eye
  • Red - Cut a slightly smaller circle for the nose *hint- compare the one you already cut with the light brown paper
Step 3: Now it is glue time! Set everything on the toilet paper roll, to make sure everything is there, the right size, etc. Don't get too messy ;)

Step 4: Give the poor reindeer some antlers! You are going to want to measure just how long of antlers you want. I would think around 2-3 inches is plenty. Cut two pipes for each reindeer. To add the effect of the antler, cut 2 2-inches of pipe cleaner per antler to wrap around.

Step 5: Tape your single pipe to the front of your reindeer, or on the back of the face, in the position you want. But make sure it is taped on the inside of the roll....to keep it from looking too tacky.

Step 6: After you the start of the antlers are set on the reindeer, grab the 2 inches you cut earlier and twist them on the already applied pipe cleaners. You'll want to twist one towards the top and one towards the bottom, for the same as the picture.

Step 7: Slip the candy in the center of the reindeer

Step 8: Additional - write a message on the back. Make it personalized!! :)
